Peggle

Clear all the orange pegs from the board and beat the levels!

The Peggle game takes part in the Peggle Institute, founded by Bjorn, a nice unicorn. There’s no story other than that in this game, so after this particular character welcomes you, the game begins.

But what is this game about, you may be wondering. Let’s try to answer that question.
The screen shows an arrangement of “pegs” which are the round or rectangular pieces composing a board kind of thing. This arrangement varies in form from level to level and, of course, in difficulty. Some of the pegs are the target you have to hit with a ball shot from the top with a shooter that is fixed in the middle of the screen but that you can move around, pointing at different directions. When you “pull the trigger” (click with your mouse) the ball is shot and start hitting the pegs and bouncing around until it falls all the way down the board. In the bottom of the screen there is a “rescue ship” moving sideways from one end to the other. If you are lucky and the ship catch the ball, it’s a saved ball and you get another free ball to replace it. If you are not so lucky, you lose that ball and you have to shoot a new one to keep playing. When you run out of balls the game is over (you have 10 balls available).
The goal of the game is to hit all orange pegs in the board in order to clear them. If you clear the orange pegs before running out of balls you pass the level. If you run out of balls before clearing all orange pegs you lose. What is hard about this game is that you don’t have a direct shot to each orange pegs and it’s kind of hard to calculate all the bouncing the ball will do when you shot an indirect ball.
There are four type of pegs in Peggle to know:
- Blue pegs, the basic type, can be round and rectangular.
- Orange pegs, are worth 10x the value of blue pegs. You have to clear all the orange pegs on a level to beat the level.
- Purple pegs, are worth 50x the value of blue pegs. This peg changes location in every shot.
- Green pegs, activate your Magic Power. There are two green pegs per level.
Also, there are four game modes in Peegle to know:
1. Adventure Mode: allows you to train with all the Peggle Masters. Progress through all the levels to become a Peggle Master yourself.
2. Quick Play: lets you select an individual level to play. You may only play levels that you’ve completed in Adventure Mode.
3. Duel Mode: allows you to compete in a two player version of Peegle. You can play against the computer or another person.
4. Challenge Mode: presents you with extra difficult Peggle feats. Beat all of the challenges to become a Peggle Grand Master.
When you enter the game, you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options:
- Change Player: to change the current profile.
- Adventure: this option leads you to the comic-style introduction to the game. When it’s done you’ll be seeing the tutorial when it’s the first time you play (you can skip it at any time).
- Quick Game, Duel and Challenge: the other modes available to play Peggle.
- Options: this is the menu from which you can set some game options like: sound effects volume, music volume, fever volume, 3D acceleration, colorblind mode, custom cursors, and full screen (on/off). You can also access help information from here.
- Demo: plays a demo version of the game to help you learn from the master.
- Replays: allows you to see a game you’ve played and saved.
- Quit: no further explanation required.
Once you are playing, you can press the PAUSE button on the screen to pause the game, go to the options menu, get back to the game, access help information, restart level, or go back to the main menu.
